Youth unemployment is a problem. Millions of young people in this country are out of work and unable to find a job, while some simply do not have the skills necessary to get hired. The figures are alarming.
The root of this issue is the economic downturn that hit the United States head-on during 2008, leading to weak hiring conditions and high unemployment rates. Currently, there are over 5 million unemployed individuals between the ages of 16 and 24 that are actively looking for a job while another 8 million have given up on their search for a job entirely.
